Why didn't Abraham suspect it was Satan telling him to kill Isaac?
by True North inhaven't we all heard of those who've killed others -- even their own children -- after (they claimed) hearing a voice telling them to do so?
most people would consider these ones to have been insane if they really thought they'd heard such things.
on the other hand, some jws, i would suspect, would think that these murderers may actually have heard demonic voices.

Its interesting how I thought that witnesses were sane, normal people while I was one. But now that I'm out of the fold, they're pretty much nuts. Nothing can reason with them. I recently told my mother that I'm doing research on my own without taking the Society's words for what is the Truth. And I've tried different reasoning tactics with her, but none has worked yet. And while she's staying "faithful" and unmovable to her religion, I start to ask myself if I'm doing what's right. Do the Witnesses have the right religion? So, while I try to help others, it has an effect on my self-esteem and self-worth. When my mother calls, I know she cares about me, but its hard to distinguish her love and her fear of me being destroyed by God. And I really do wish the Society would just #*$& themselves and leave everybody's lives alone. But, oh well for that. The only encouragement I can give is to keep true to yourself. I know that sounds broad, but always consider your feelings. If there's nobody you can trust, then trust yourself.

I think Gumby put it nicely. The question shouldn't be about if it was Satan or God telling him. But, rather why would God tell a human to sacrifice his own son? What if Abraham refused? Would he be disobeying God then? And considered wicked and evil for not killing his son? Put yourself in Abraham's shoes. God tells you to kill a loved one. Would you do it? Of course a witness would say that God doesn't tell us what to do in these days, personally. That anything like that would be demonic. But, hypothetically, if you knew it was God, would you kill your loved one, without a doubt? To use the Society's cop-out answer, I guess it would be up to all of our own Bible-trained conscience.

Why weren't (aren't) we appalled that God required a human sacrifice?
by True North inapologists for the genocidal behavior written of in the old testament have often stated that its victims simply got what they deserved, and that they deserved it in part because their unclean religious practices included human sacrifice, even the sacrifice of their own children.
christians have long prided themselves in comparison to many pagan religions in that christian religious practice has never included human sacrifice and that christian principles would make one abhor such practices.
so why did we (do we) so readily accept the concept that the christian god would require a human sacrifice -- of his own son, yet -- before he would allow himself to be propitiated?

To add to the posts, a witness would say that God had prepared in advance and made a promise to Adam and Eve that a seed would be coming in the future to cancel out mankind's sins. Yet, 2 questions. Why did God later on during Noah's time say that he was going to destroy everyone because of their wickedness, yet that would break his promise of the seed? And if mankind's sins are canceled out by means of Jesus' sacrifice, why in the world do we pray for forgiveness, aren't our sins blotted out?

Forgot to add this. If the Faithful and Discreet Slave is supposed to be the annointed ones, why don't the rest of the 144,000 have a say in anything? Shouldn't we be going to them and asking them for guidance? Instead, are they saying that the Faithful and Discreet Slave "CLASS" (I love how they add class) is only made up of the Governing Body? Okay, get it over with. Just shoot me now.

Okay, let me get this straight then. This is how the JWs believe the dates go according to the scriptures.
Matt 24:34-35 - Armageddon
Matt 24:45-47 - 1919
Matt 25:14-30 - Armageddon
Matt 25:31 - 1914
Matt 25:32-33 - Armageddon
Maybe, just maybe, Jesus here might be talking about the same parable. That he will come when nobody is expecting it. Nice how The Society fits the scripture to match whatever they want it to say.

I am a recent XJW and have noticed quite abit of people referring the WTS as The Borg. They usually refer them to as the ORG. I would like to write down several things that each seem to have in comparison. And please add any other things that you have come up with yourself.
The Borganization:
They are all one body, one mind. They do not think for themselves. Emotions are irrelevant.
They assimilate all races and technology to reach their ultimate goal. Perfection.
They adapt. (AKA The New Light)
They are controlled by one entity, their "Mother".
They are consistently made up of white men and speak English (little StarTrek joke).
They tried to change history to help in the assimilation of mankind.
The "mother" slept with a representative of the "United" organization to gain access to their computer library.
And if there's anything else you want to add, please do. Have fun.

Revoke Your JW Baptism Vows on this thread!
by Sirona inmany of us here were baptised into the jw organisation.
shotguns shootout thread (part 5) touches on the fact that since 1985 the vows included a dedication to "jehovahs organisation".. have you publicly revoked this?.
why not use this opportunity to revoke your vows to the watchtower organisation?

Not to point any fingers or make fun of anybody, but I, myself, think its funny that some of you here that debaptized themselves didn't use their real name. Unless you used those names when you were baptized. It would be funny to see your personalized Bibles say your alias name and the baptism date by it. Everybody raise their hand if they ever had a personalized Bible. ..... Aw, come on, don't be shy. ....... Okay, dub the question. As the light gets brighter personally for me, seeing the true meaning behind what the organization has done, it is now just apalling to ever have agreed with the baptismal vow. Well, good for all of you here to be able to see the Organization for what it is. Best of luck.

Just told a dub about the UN letter; the blind just won't see
by acsot ini just told a dub here at work about the letter.
when the dub told me i was on my way out of watchtower-land anyhow, but the blatant hypocrisy just floored me.
okay, so here's how the conversation went:

As a recent xjw I just want to add that I am rather shocked that many witnesses will just ignore the NGO/UN issue. First, I had never heard anything about this topic in my 25 years being raised in the Borganization. I could only trust my feelings in the past, seeing the hypocrisy in the elders, and several doubts about "The Truth". But to get to the point, I guess I never really met anyone that would rather only listen to what the Society had to say rather than find truth, the real truth. But, then again I never really talked to anyone of them about "Apostate" propaganda. Everybody was too busy avoiding any type thinking or reasoning. I have to admit, reading many tales of devout witnesses that ignored all facts and proof of the NGO or Child abbuse or other topics such as this, I'm very much disgusted that these "brothers and sisters" would blatantly turn their eyes. They were given the opportunity to see the real truth and I was never shown it. "Babes as to badness". *@#$@*$@(@#*$ Here's a little side note, When someone is blinded, it doesn't just mean because of darkness. A bright light can blind someone. And its figurative enough that the light gets brighter, blinding these JWs even more. Peace out all.
